Children's Hosp. Child's Life Team and Brighton Center

On Tuesday August, 26th Brighton Center’s Youth Leadership Development Program and Children’s Hospital’s Child Life Team partnered up for a day of painting during United Way’s Annual Community Care Week.
Youth Leadership Development (YLD) is a 34 week after school prevention program for youth in grades 5-8 in the communities of Newport, Dayton, and Silver Grove Kentucky. YLD works with youth on building their self esteem, making healthy decisions, team building and strives to get kids actively involved and giving back to their communities through service learning.
The Youth Leadership Development (YLD) classroom, which is housed in one of Brighton Center’s community buildings, was in need of a little TLC. The staff from Children’s Hospital Child Life took on this project with excitement and enthusiasm.
The room received freshly painted walls. The Children’s Hospital Child Life staff was thorough and precise making sure all needs were met to create a beautiful space for Brighton Center’s YLD youth to learn and have fun. The best part of this Community Care Week project was youth and adults working together to accomplish a goal. It teaches us all that partnerships made up of any age, can accomplish wonderful things when we work together.

Redwood's Walk & Roll Path was a Zoo thanks to Ernst & Young Our Give campaign
Ernst & Young LLP's first annual Our Give campaign was a great success with Redwood's children and clients. The Zoo themed stations along the path included many animals, one of the favorites was the Cat House station. Noah Payne is displaying the cat tail he wore on the path with Maria Brolley from School Age Services and Ernst & Young's employees.

Western Southern Financial Group Has Partnered with Redwood for the 11th Year
Western & Southern Financial Group (W&SFG) and Redwood are celebrating 11 years of being a Community Partners. W&SFG Co-Chair Kent Finley, Redwood's Volunteer Coordinator, Susan Bushey, United Way's President Rob Reifsnyder and Co-Chair Scott Dinius of W&SFG are pictured below.
Western Southern Financial Group of 70+ volunteers landscaped all 5 acres of Redwood! They weeded, fluffed mulch, and trenched all the main entrances during this family friendly project. At the Adult Independence Entrance they donated a nosegay of flowers just in time for the Fall Formal dance. Some of the folks stayed inside and helped clean the classrooms.

Western & Southern Finacial Group gave items to Redwood's wish list for their children and clients.

Ethicon Endo Surgery volunteered on Friday, August 29 for a clean-up project for Greater Cincinnati Behavioral Health Services (GCB). The project was at a group residence for mentally ill clients of GCB. The sweltering heat was no deterrant for the enthusiasm and kind and giving spirit of the 29 volunteers. The clean-up work included some landscaping and painting on the outside of the home.

Unum presented a Paradise Cruise at Redwood

Unum Insurance Company volunteered on Friday, August 15 to create a Paradise Cruise for our children and clients with disabilities. They had the cruise event on our Walk & Roll path that is 1/4 of a mile around our building. I was so impressed with the creativity that Unum used in making the Paradise Cruise so informative and fun.
The Unum Group prepared a passport with fun facts from 4 different continents. They also let the children and clients touch plastic lizards from Australia and pan for gold in Alaska. Even I learned things about the world I live in from this volunteer driven event. I have attached a picture of the happy Unum crew from the cruise.
